What is CCL? The Climate Change Levy (CCL) is an environmental tax introduced by the government to incentivise UK businesses to enhance energy efficiency and reduce energy consumption. The tax is applied at the point of supply on electricity, gas, liquid petroleum, and solid fuels (including coal, lignite, and coke). Business energy suppliers are responsible for applying the
relevant CCL to the taxable commodities they provide, and the collected charges are then forwarded to HM Revenue.
